After dinner and the movie, Gabriel brought Hayden back to the hotel room. It had been a good day, the sort of lovely, relaxed day that so seldom happened while on tour, and Gabriel had loved every minute of it.

“What are you doing the day after tomorrow?” Gabriel asked as they got undressed after coming in. They had a show the next night, and then, wonder of wonders, another day off before eight straight shows in a row.

Hayden smiled at him, sweet and affectionate as always.

“I’m hanging out with you,” he said, and Gabriel grinned.

“That’s the right answer,” he told him, then lowered his head and pressed a kiss to the smaller man’s lips. He gathered his small body up into his arms, slipping his tongue demandingly into his mouth while his fingers tugged at that soft hair. He was becoming obsessed with that hair, and with Hayden’s reaction when he pulled it.

They fell into bed together, and it was as good as it always was. Better, maybe, because he was getting less nervous all the time. Every time it went well, it helped him think that what had happened to him before was nothing more than a case of hooking up with some bad lovers.

Lips and tongues and hands were all very good, and so was rubbing, rutting, desperately against each other. The more this went on, though, the more Gabriel wanted more. The more he wanted to see if Hayden really could handle being fucked by him, and even, in his more insane moments, whether it would be good if Hayden fucked him.

In the end, he backed away, though. He knew that Hayden would have gone for it in a second, of course, but he still found that he couldn’t take that risk.

The truth was, he’d been fighting against this for a long time. He’d found Hayden beautiful, and it could have been so easy to let himself really fall in love. But once he gave his heart to someone, he got the idea that he’d never be able to take it back.

Hayden was special, and that made him scary. Terrifying, really, and Gabriel wasn’t a coward, but when it came to his heart, he was careful. So, as always, he backed away just before taking everything to the next level. Instead of spreading Hayden’s legs and pushing inside him, he finished him with his hand.

It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy giving the other man pleasure like that, because he did. But what would it be like? He’d fucked many girls, but never a man before. But if he crossed that line, if he gave in to what they both wanted, would he be able to handle the disappointment if he’d been right all along? If he was straight?

Life was so much easier, he realized, when you didn’t love someone. Usually, by this point on a tour, he would have slept with several different people. He hadn’t, because he was with Hayden. Whether he was ready to make it official or not, clearly, he was in love.
